The World Pattern Project is about...
This project was conceived by another Art Teacher friend of mine, Ms. Rambaud who is now working in Thailand. She contacted me this summer to ask if I wanted our students to be a part of this project. The idea is that students around the world will research the patterns from the culture they are living in. They will create their own designs inspired by these patterns, and learn a different print-making method to create prints of their designs. During the process, they will keep a blog, record their process, and create videos to show how they did certain techniques. These blogs can be shared with students all over the world, so that we can learn about the cultures, patterns and processes of that part of the world.
This website is made up of student blogs from my Grade 8 Classroom in Shanghai, China. So we will be looking at and creating designs inspired by Chinese pattern. Later, we'll explore the blogs and designs from students in other parts of the world. We'll get to learn about the patterns and cultures in their countries, and make our own designs inspired by them.
Some of the other blogs around the world will be listed here soon as this project progresses.
I sincerely hope you enjoy taking part and learning from being a part of this project! -Ms. Osann
